The web has erupted as a new medium, affecting everyone from corporations to non-profit organizations; from the family to the individual. In few short years, it has changed the way that most of us view social interaction. Some have come to view the web and its technologies as a wonderful invention, while others believe it will lead down much darker roads.
Social Software has appeared recently as a term to describe software which encourages and optimizes social dynamics. The emphasis has been on managing 'friendships'. 1000camels takes a slightly different approach to social software. We consider all software to be social - at least, good software. It is an important aspect of User Interface and Useability design to take into account the social dynamics of the users - both present and future. Issues such as Intellectual Property and Open Source are helping us to see how our online systems cannot be considered and developed out of context of the larger web.
1000camels has developed social software for the last eight years. Our systems push beyond the typical manifestations of website and webpage, to develop a more sophisticated social environment. Our model is the open system. It is a design which promotes open infrastructure as a way to create systems which react and respond to the changes around it.
